Fahrenheit is a temperature scale that bases the boiling point of water at 212°F and the freezing point at 32°F. The temperature scale was developed in 1734, by German physicist Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit, who also invented the first modern thermometer. Fahrenheit is the official temperature scale in the United States and also used in the Cayman Islands, Palau, Bahamas and Belize. All other countries in the world use the Celsius scale, the name given to the centigrade scale in 1948 in honor of Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius.
