On this day in 1998, NBC aired the series finale of Seinfeld. Approximately 76 million viewers tuned in to watch Jerry, Elaine, Kramer, and George end up in jail, in fictional Latham, Massachusetts. In the final scene of the series, Jerry is wearing an orange jumpsuit, and performing a stand-up routine of prison-related jokes to an audience of fellow prisoners. As Jerry is escorted off the stage by a prison guard, he says to his audience of fellow prisoners, "Hey, you've been great! See you in the cafeteria!" as the audience jeers and Kramer gives him a standing ovation, wrapping up the episode and the series.
