Washington, D.C.'s famous cherry blossom trees were a gift from which country?

Answer:

Japan

In 1912, Tokyo's Mayor Yukio Ozaki gifted the United States with 3,000 cherry blossom trees, as a symbol of the growing friendship between Japan and the United States. The first "Cherry Blossom Festival" was held in late 1934 and in 1935 it officially became a national annual event. Each year the festival of trees is enjoyed by tens of thousands of people in our Nation's Capitol who come to view the red, white, and pink trees. The event's organizers cancelled many of the 2020 festival's events because of concerns related the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
