A city
On December 22, 1864, Union General William T. Sherman presented the city of Savannah, Georgia, to President Abraham Lincoln. After capturing the city in his famous March to the Sea from Atlanta, General Sherman sent President Lincoln a telegram saying, "I beg to present to you as a Christmas gift the city of Savannah”.
