What is known as "The Gray Lady"?
The New York Times
Nicknamed the "Gray Lady" for its staid appearance and style, The New York Times is long regarded within the industry as a national “newspaper of record”. Founded in 1851, the paper has won 130 Pulitzer Prizes, more than any other newspaper. The Gray Lady is the largest metropolitan newspaper in the United States, although it trails USA Today and the Wall Street Journal in circulation. The newspaper gave its name to Times Square, in 1904, after it moved to its new headquarters on 42nd Street in an area formerly known as Longacre Square.
