What is the only Best Picture Oscar winner without any female speaking roles?
LAWRENCE OF ARABIA
Lawrence of Arabia is a 1962 British epic historical drama film based on the life of T. E. Lawrence. Despite running nearly four hours long, Lawrence of Arabia has no female characters with speaking roles. The closest we get are a few women in the droves of extras in some of the film’s biggest scenes, but none are focused on beyond being part of the rabble. Lawrence of Arabia was nominated for ten Oscars at the 35th Academy Awards in 1963; it won seven, including Best Picture. In the years since, it has been recognized as one of the greatest and most influential films in the history of cinema.
