What US cabinet position was filled by its first African-American last month?

Answer:

Secretary of Defense

Lloyd James Austin III is the first Black Secretary of Defense in American history. The retired four-star general was nominated for the post by the incoming presidential administration of Joseph R. Biden and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on January 22, 2021. The 93-2 vote came a day after Congress granted Mr. Austin a special waiver to hold the post, which is required for any defense secretary who has been out of active-duty military service for less than seven years. Austin previously served as the 12th commander of United States Central Command, becomming the first Black commander of CENTCOM.
