Where did the infamous Woodstock Music Festival in 1969 take place?

On this day in 1969, the Woodstock music festival opened on a dairy farm in Bethel, New York. Plans for the festival were on the verge of foundering after the town of Woodstock denied permission to hold the event. However, dairy farmer Max Yasgur came to the rescue at the last minute, giving the promoters access to his 600 acres of land in Bethel, located about 40 miles from Woodstock. 32 acts performed in front of 400,000 concertgoers including: The Grateful Dead, The Who, Santana, Janis Joplin, Joan Baez, Jefferson Airplane, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Sha Na Na, and Jimi Hendrix.
