Snoopy is Charlie Brown's pet beagle in the comic strip Peanuts by Charles M. Schulz. Snoopy, arguably the world's most beloved cartoon beagle, first appeared on the comic strip scene on the October 4, 1950 strip, two days after the comic strip began. He was called Snoopy for the first time a month later, on November 10. The original drawings of Snoopy were inspired by Spike, one of Schulz's childhood dogs. Although this dog was a pointer, and not a beagle as was Snoopy, family photos of the dog confirm a certain physical resemblance to Snoopy.
