Which group recorded the 1963 song "Puff, the Magic Dragon"?
Peter, Paul and Mary
"Puff, the Magic Dragon" was recorded by the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary. The song was written by Peter Yarrow before he joined the group. The song started out as a poem that had been written by Peter's roommate at Cornell, Leonard Lipton. Lipton had left the poem in Peter's typewriter, and when Peter noticed it, he wrote the lyrics to "Puff" based on the poem. After the song became a hit, Peter gave Lipton half the songwriting credit, along with royalties to the song. Despite rumors, both Lipton and Yarrow have denied that the song is about drugs.
