Who appeared as the first musical guest on Saturday Night Live?
On October 11, 1975, George Carlin hosted the very first episode of Saturday Night Live, and introduced Billy Preston as the first musical guest. Preston sang his catchy hit "Nothing From Nothing." Known for his big smile and an even bigger afro, Bill Preston began his career in the 1960s playing keyboards and backing artists such as Little Richard, Sam Cooke, Ray Charles, and the Beatles. He went on to achieve fame as a solo artist with a string of hits such as "That's the Way God Planned It", the Grammy-winning "Outa Space", "Will It Go Round in Circles", "Space Race", and "With You I'm Born Again".
