On October 11, 1975, Saturday Night Live (SNL), a topical comedy sketch show featuring Chevy Chase, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Gilda Radner, Garrett Morris, Jane Curtin and Laraine Newman, made its debut on NBC. The host for the very first show was stand up comedy legend, George Carlin. Instead of taking part in sketches, George Carlin performed three different bits of his stand up comedy routines throughout the show.
